Minimally Speaking. This show was written by Richard L. Saucedo, but one of our old band teachers Pat Nebesniak wrote this whole show and made sure to challenge the band this year. Its one of the hardest shows the band will ever perform said Mr. Salestean to his ’09 marching band. This show consists of many complicated shapes, moves, and pinwheels. This years the drum-line has a very hard move. They have to do a 180 degree pinwheel move in a 32 step count! With drums on! That’s a very difficult move.

In mid August this summer they had band camp where they come early in the morning and leave late at night. They go from eight in the morning to twelve in the afternoon and come back at five and don’t get to leave until nine thirty. At the end of the week they perform what they have learned for their friends and family. So much work, sweat, and pain has gone into this show.

With practicing in a field that has uneven ground lots of the marchers were injured. Some sprained ankles, some got sick from the heat, and some had bad rolled ankles. With every practice there was always someone sitting out with injury, but at the end of the week they pulled together and left behind the injury and pushed on forward to show off one of the highly anticipated shows in LNS marching band history.

Some say marching band is not hard at all, but all the other sports they don’t have to carry instruments, play them, and make sure they take the right kind of step in the right direction in right timing. The marching band works just as hard as any other athlete and maybe even harder. Not only do these students march but they have to run back to set and they practice in the hot sun. They also have to carry instruments adding more pressure the package and some of these instruments are pretty heavy. With having a neck strap or a harness it hurts your neck and shoulders after awhile.

Both Salistean and Sanderson, a new band teacher, both see a lot of potential in this show. Being an actual show written for marching bands not just different songs that have the same kind of musical theme to them like last years shows, Minimally Speaking is an actual show. Some of the freshman say that said that they were frustrated with the show because it was complicated but they were enjoying what they were doing. Some of these students are so dedicated to what they do. Some don’t realize how hard they work to entertain the audience, whether it means hitting the right note or making the right step, this is their passion and they do what it takes to make it amazing to watch.

The drumline has a few old and new faces. Seciton leaders are Brian Shuman, 11, Logan Burke, 12, and Caleb Wiedel. New drumline members are Kyle Miller, 10, Amanda Keblar, 10, Chase Pfanstiel, 10, and Colten Hunzeker, 10. Returning to the drums are not only the section leaders but Jesse and Joel Menter, 12, Zack Luhring, 12, Tim Smith, 12, and Kevin Reimnitz, 11. The bass line include Tim, Colten, Amanda, Chase, and Brian. Snares are Kyle, Logan, Zack, and Joel.

Lastly the tenors are Kevin, Caleb, and Jesse. This year drumline worked hard all summer to get their songs memorized and get their stand songs right. All section leaders say they see alot of good potential in this years line. Drumline instructor Greg Coffey says they have improved alot since the first practice at the beging of summer and that he is excited for another year with the LNS drumline.
