As the year comes to a close, we say goodbye to homework, seniors, our peers, and teachers. This year is extra bittersweet because one of our longtime teachers Jace Ahlberg is entering his final weeks as a North Star teacher.
He has been a long time member of the staff, helping educate students since the second year North Star has been open. He started off as a 9th grade social studies teacher and moved up to strictly teaching GoPo and AP GoPo for the past 10 years. “Yet that was not my first time in an LPS school, I worked at Lincoln High previously before joining the North Star staff,” said Ahlberg. He also added, “In addition to teaching I’ve been a swim coach here at North Star two different times while I’ve been here, and the sponsor for the student council.”
With so much experience with the community here, we wanted to find out what some of his favorite memories have been over the years. “There have been so many things that have happened here that I will never forget, but something I’m most proud of is when a team of AP GoPo Students worked to prepare for the state ‘We The People’ competition, and won 3rd in the state and 2nd of the 6 units awards,” he said. These amazing memories will be held dearly in his heart for years to come and may even occasionally pull a heart string to look back on. He said,”One of the things he’s going to miss most is the students.” He explained how they are the reason he shows up to work everyday and still has a passion for teaching.
Mr. Ahlberg is going to be missed next year as he parts on to a new journey. When asked what that looks like for him he said, “I have accepted a teaching position at Lincoln Standing Bear High School and will be a head swim coach there as well. He has so much new land to conquer next year, and we send him the best of wishes and luck on his endeavors. You will be missed greatly by the Gators here at North Star.
