North Star track and field is always in the race for a title come post season, but with Le’Brian Clay (11) back in town, their chances multiplied tenfold. After spending most of his time last year in Florida, he’s excited to adjust to everything Nebraska has to bring. When asked about how it feels to be back in Lincoln, Clay stated that ”I feel like I’m trying to adjust to the weather changes with it being very cold out here, Florida has bright mornings and humid weather which really changes my running.” Drastic weather changes can affect a runner in many ways, that being your muscles contracting more in cold temperatures, or you becoming sluggish in very hot environments. On Wednesday, March 25th, North Star’s Track and Field team had a duel alongside Lincoln Northwest, and the 110m hurdles were nothing short of spectacular.

Three of the top four runners were North Star athletes, those being Le’Brian Clay, Jarrett Daniel (12), and Will Kleppinger (11). Clay would end up running a personal best 14.88, which would place him alongside the state’s best last year on the podium at 2025 NSAA Track and Field State Championships. Arguably the most important thing for a runner is staying healthy and peaking at the right times; These three hurdlers challenge each other every day, making them better while still following their coach’s programs to stay healthy. When the practice environment was mentioned, Clay stated that,” William and Jarrett help push me to my limit to get faster.” and that will be needed if he wants an amazing comeback year. While he was away in Florida, Clay didn’t even have the chance to run for his High school, he just focused on “going to the gym and focusing on getting stronger and faster” by doing explosive movements like box jumps and deadlifts. However, all this training would be futile if he didn’t have a goal to attain. When Clay was a freshman here at LNS, he didn’t reach his goal of bringing home a medal, this year he’s willing to do all it takes to have a medal in his hands come May.
