With the state championship being right around the corner there is no better time for multiple school records to be broken. Head varsity coach Becky Mantonya is pumped up and ready to show the other teams what Lincoln North Star has to show. Starting off this year there have been more points than previous years scored because of the multiple team and individual event winners. In getting those wins comes some phenomenal records. On January 31st there were three big records broken. Sergio Hosey-Alvarez (9) shattered the 100 Fly with an incredible time of 54.57 which is a quarter of a second faster than the previous time. Rainy Nixon (12) also had an amazing performance and broke the 100 back stroke with a time of 1:04.06. Rounding out the meet with the boys 400 free relay Noah Neeman (12), Duncan Henning (9), Jacob Korth (11), and Sergio Hosey-Alvarez (9) set a new team record time of 3:34.62.
Beyond these amazing times and the new team records are student athletes that work extremely hard in and out of the pool. One thing the team loves to do before meets is a team dinner. This is described by many on the team as a time to socialize and get away from the stress of competition. Something that is discussed at just about every dinner is goals swimmers hope to meet as well as if they are coming closer to an old goal. Noah Neeman (12) set the goal of improving the 400 free relay while also planning on breaking the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. On the same track Jacob Korth (11) has the desire to be on the team to break the 200 medley or free relay. Jacob hopes to qualify for state in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke this year. Finally a big goal from the freshman swim prodigy, Sergio Hosey-Alvarez (9) is to place top 8 in state as just a freshman while also helping his team reach their max potential. While interviewing Sergio he has high plans to have his name on the record board for just about every individual record. Come out and support are stronger than ever swim team at state swim hosted at Devany Sports Center on days February 26-28.
