| The wrestling season is off and away, beginning last Saturday with intrasquad taking place at the swamp. The squad is led by tons of experience with a majority of the team’s top wrestlers being seniors. Marcus Wynne, senior, is looking to start his season off strong. After ending his season with a loss to Will Manning of the East Spartans, Wynne has been chomping at the bit to get back into the season. “Losing that match has kept me restless,” Wynne stated. He feels not only him, but everybody on the team feels they have something to prove this season. Especially Carter Geschke, another senior, who is looking upon a lot of goals this upcoming winter. Geschke hopes to place top 3 at state this year for his weight class while also achieving 150 career wins and 100 career pins. Geschke currently sits at 114 wins and 73 pins. He believes that as a 4 year starter he has the most to prove to others coming into his senior campaign, “but mostly I want to prove to myself I can do it,” Geschke added. Geschke will have the opportunity to do so this season with the Creighton Prep meet where he will meet #1 and #2 in the state. Geschke made sure to mention that “I have this one circled on my calendar.”
Head Wrestling Coach Jake Froscheiser mentioned Carter as one of the important pieces returning this year for Gator Wrestling. He believes that this group of guys can finish within the top 10 this year among the top teams in the state. Coach Fro reiterates the message of “Getting Better” to his guys every chance he can get. He also feels many wrestlers have improved over the course of the offseason but most notable was Junior wrestler Liam Gallager. Liam has worked very hard this offseason to improve his game and according to the team, it has shown. His determination to get better helps out himself but more importantly, the team, Fro emphasizes. Alongside Gallager on the list of most hardworking lives Haidr Al-Azawy, Carter Geschke, and JC Seivers, all who are looking to take advantage of their last high school season.
In addition to the improvisation of skill, Al-Awazy adds that the team chemistry has been very good this offseason with everybody uniting through their shared goal of breaking records. In this so far historical year for Lincoln North Star athletics, the boys wrestling team looks to expand upon what the fall sports brought to the table. |
