North Star High School recognized 12 students on January 20, 2026, honoring nine cheerleaders and three Dazzlers during their senior night. The night highlighted the dedication and commitment these seniors have shown to their teams throughout their high school careers.
The recognition took place during a home basketball game against Kearney, where the gym was filled with students, staff, and families. In between the boys’ and girls’ game, each senior was announced by name and escorted onto the court by family members. The seniors were given a flower and small gifts as the crowd applauded in appreciation of their contributions to school spirit and athletics.
Cheerleaders and Dazzlers play an important role at North Star, supporting teams while also representing the school at pep rallies, and community events. Their responsibilities extend beyond game nights, as they spend hours practicing routines, staying caught up in the classroom, and working together as a team. Head varsity cheer coach Ashley Downey-Caudill said, “Seniors have set an example for teammates through commitment, encouragement, and passion, and their impact will be felt long after this season ends.” Downey has been coaching cheer for 3 years at North Star and has bonded with these seniors since she first started.

Senior night also gave underclassmen the opportunity to recognize the leadership and example set by the graduating students. Younger team members shared encouragement with the seniors, reflecting on the guidance they received throughout the season. Cheerleader Daisy Marshall (10) shared her appreciation by giving a message to each of the seniors, one of them being “Through the years you’ve always been such an asset to our team. When times are hard you make everyone feel better by bringing smiles all around.” The night gave the chance for teammates to show how much the seniors really meant to them.
For the seniors, the night marked an emotional milestone. The Dazzlers did a special performance dedicated to the night. Their three seniors, Hadley Kerner, Sidney Stephan, and Hayden Danburg choreographed their halftime dance to the song, Sign of the Times by Harry Styles, which brought high emotions not only for the Dazzlers, but everyone around them. As the season continues, the teams will carry forward the traditions and standards set by this senior class. Jessic Tran (12) shared that the thing she will miss the most about cheer is “seeing my team almost everyday because over the years I’ve developed such a close bond with them and they feel like family.” The fourth year cheerleader reflected on how the program has shaped her stating that the memories and friendships that she has gained will continue to stay with her.
Senior night served as a reminder of the impact student-athletes have on their school community. By honoring the cheerleaders and Dazzlers, the event celebrated not only athletic involvement but also school pride, teamwork, and dedication that will be remembered long after graduation.
