FBLA Demolishes Competition

FBLA+Demolishes+Competition

On Tuesday October 31st, North Star’s FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) went to the UNL East campus student union to participate in the annual J.A spark competition. North Star swept the competition, placing first and second among 14 schools, and about 40 teams . It was a first time event for most including Mr. Ball, who coached everyone through their ideas.

The J.A Spark competition was a play on the show Shark Tank. During the competition students created ideas and pitches with the help of local business leaders. Some business leaders in attendance were the creator of Tasty Good Toffee Katie Becker, RedThreads owner Josiah Blackmore and Tradegamz CEO Bo  . Senior Braelyn Marshall added, “The J.A spark competition was an amazing experience that allowed me to see how a business works.”

The second place team consisted of LNS students Jevaya Howard, Kristi Chumber, Alex Moyer, Brooke Adam, and Eliseo Lopez Mateo. Their amazing idea was a community center, a fun and free place for students to all hangout outside of school, here in Lincoln.

The first place team, was Kaitlyn Cornett, Braelyn Marshall, Ezekiel Menter, and Camden McCarthy. Their idea was a running shoe that tracks a persons running time, speed, stride distance, walking asymmetry, and double support time. “Like a fitbit on your feet,” Ezekiel added.

Overall North Star FBLA students swept the competition, and came out on top. It’s a great year to be a Gator!

This is my first year in Yearbook, and I'm so excited to take pictures, write stories, and keep up with all that's going on at North Star. I am a active member in Unified activities, which includes track, bowling, and club.
I love the inclusivity of North Star. North Star provides a lot of opportunities for unified activities, and it's over all a amazing experience.
