Off to a Running Start

You just keep running. Running… It sucks, it’s boring, it’s not big people friendly, and it doesn’t help me lose weight!

For some people it does help them lose weight. Though for the athletes at North Star, they manage to stay fit and be healthy so they can run and run to win.

“Yes, I have difficulties not eating ice-cream, fried foods, and all the other delicious sweets. I just push myself not to eat all the bad foods so I can be better as an individual and as a team player,” said Andrew Martinez (10). There is no “I” in team. Being a team player is the best kind of player to have. Yeah, it’s good to have players with talent, but you would be better off going with someone with some talent that cares more about the team than themselves.

“Jaelynn (Griess), to me, is a team player. She is such an inspiration to me,” said sophomore Jeralyn Poe. “She always pushes me to my fullest and she just keeps me going. Jaelynn isn’t just pushing me; she pushes everyone. To me that is what a team player should look like.”

“I think that as a team we are really good. We have such good chemistry with each other. As a team we cover all the parts of track and field,” said Cole Linke (10).

Running may be fun to some. To these athletes, it’s not just helping them with track, it is helping them stay in shape and prepare themselves for future plans.
