Baseball Gets Rained Out

Wet. Very wet. A word not necessarily associated with baseball, is the best word to describe this season so far.

In previous, drier years, practice would take place on the baseball or softball fields. This year the majority of practices have taken place in a dark, but dry gym. Although the conditions have not been favorable, the results have.

A successful start is highlighted by wins over #1 ranked (at that time) Creighton Prep, a doubleheader split with previous #6 Omaha Burke and a #6 overall state ranking. The success by the Varsity team has been attributed to the depth and cohesiveness of the players. “Every player is a potential starter,” Alex Caruso (12) said.

“We have so much depth in positions that we have lacked before. Not to mention that we all get along so well,” said Tyler Coufal (12).

The players have bonded since the year started through long practices and team dinners. “Winning also helped,” said Caruso, “When we win we are happy, and when we are happy we play well, and when we play well it is going to be hard to beat us.”

The team has proved their worth by putting up a 8-4 record, and advancing to the championship of the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament. The regular season concludes on April 23, as games after that date do not count towards district pairings.
