No More Mr. North Star

Where’s Mr. North Star?!

By Jody Vuong

Third time’s the charm, right? Wrong. Will our annual Mr. North Star male pageant come to an end? Probably not, but we do know that none of our wonderful Gator men will be taking the stage this year.

For the past two years, North Star has hosted their very own male pageant, Mr. North Star. All proceeds were always donated to the Make-AWish Foundation and both years were quite successful. Last year, Student Council donated over $1,000 dollars to Make-A-Wish. If Mr. North Star was so successful, why isn’t there going to be one this year? “Not enough guys signed up,” said junior Alex Jordan, who was the chair of the Community/ Charity committee. Mr. North Star was supposed to take place in the North Star theatre on April 9, 2013.

So what needs to happen to guarantee that there will be a Mr. North Star pageant next year? “My suggestion is to advertise it a lot better and a lot sooner,” Student Council President Bailey Parde (11) said. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our Gator men to come out of their comfort zones, but also to experience something new, all while raising money for a good cause.

Although there won’t be a Mr. North Star this year, there is still a lot of hope for an even more successful pageant next year. With the talent portion, funny costumes, and performances from our fellow students during intermissions, there’s a lot more in store for us. So to our charming Gator men, think about signing up for Mr. North Star next year. It will definitely be a night to remember.
