High school is a new and exciting adventure. It’s where you find friends that will  stick with you for a lifetime, you take on new challenges, and you start to figure out what you want to do with your life. But before we make it to the top, everyone has to start on the bottom…the freshman.

Being a freshman is scary and nerve-racking. Being the underdogs isn’t always the best, but it’s still fun in many ways.

High school can be full of great opportunities. North Star has many fun and intellectual activities for everyone.

Many freshman love to try out for sports. North Star has many sports to choose from. From baseball to football to dance; the possibilities are endless.

Freshman Josh Mikus said, “I like being in tennis, because it’s fun to meet new friends.” Mikus is a member of the Reserve tennis team. Football is also a popular sport with 37 freshman on the Freshman football team this year.

Many freshman are looking forward to new friends this year. It’s exciting to see everyone from different schools. Incoming freshman at North Star come from Schoo, Goodrich, Dawes, and Park Middle Schools. Some students may become friends with someone they never even knew until now. It’s a great opportunity to find great friends and connect with people who have the same interests as you.

Even though high school has great times and memories, there are also some difficulties. High school can be somewhat stressful, with all the homework, plus activities, and everything else, it’s a lot to put on a teenager.

In a recent survey, most freshmen said keeping up with school and the tests are one of the hardest things in high school. The classes are more challenging, especially if you’re in a Diff class or you are going to be taking AP classes further down the road.

But after rain comes the rainbow. In other words, there are better times in high school. Activities are fun to do. Also football games are amazing. You get to dress up for the theme and cheer on our Varsity football players. We have neons colors, USA, white out, even 80s themes.

Another good thing when freshmen come into high school is that they get to be more independent. They can listen to music during independent work time, which is something they were restricted to in middle school. They also are in charge of their learning. What they learn and take from the lessons is up to them; they can choose to engage and listen or to not do anything. But they also have to start thinking about college and what certain colleges want.

Even with all the things going on, good things always come to North Star.
