Santa Cop Auction is an event that has taken place in Lincoln since 1980. It began when people from the police union decided to help families who didn’t have the financial ability to provide toys for their children at Christmas.
The event happens in two parts, the auction and using the proceeds to purchase toys.
At the auction, items are donated and bid on by members of the community. The highest bidder wins the item. Items can range from a car to a gift basket with candles and coupons.
This year’s auction will take place on Nov. 12, at the Center for People in Need at 3901 N. 27th Street. Doors open at 11 a.m.
The auction collects a lot of money for families, but people can donate at any time at santacop.org/donations/or at locations around Lincoln.
