High Expectations for “Grease”

By Katie Meredith and Shelbey White

“Wah-bam-a-lou-bop, a-wop-bamboo!” North Star theatre kicks off the spring musical, “Grease” with practices every day after school. They are working vigorously to put together this musical by March. This 50’s musical is a mixture of dancing, singing, and acting. It is unlike any musical we have done in the past. “There is more choreography involved in this musical,” said Savannah Meredith (12).

The dancing techniques used in this musical are more complex and require a lot more energy. There are more scenes and props to be moved off stage, which takes up space for the cast to be placed. Some things will be like in the movie, but other things will be different. “I think people are going to be expecting the movie, but they need to know that the musical and movie have differences, and the musical has some new and exciting suprises,” senior Gloria Kluck said. New musical, new faces, and a new atmosphere.

With the new faces coming into theatre, there are a lot of new members to the family. “Coming into theater, I wasn’t expecting everyone to be so close and for Broeker and Moje to not only care about our lives on stage, but also off stage, and I didn’t know how time consuming it is,” said Dayonna Tucker (9). Theater is not just a place, but a home for many performers.

Members of the cast of “Grease” are learning to become a family. Before every rehearsal the cast does a bonding activity to get them to become closer with each other. The cast will learn to work together and perform together to the best of their abilities. Being a member of the theatre family is a true blessing for most actors.

This fun new cast will rock the stage February 28, March 1, and 2. Be there and support your Gator performers.
