March is just around the corner. There are plenty of holidays and things that happen during this month.

Spring Break-March 11-19

Many people travel out of state during this time, but it can also be fun to stay home and hang out with friends and family. It’s great to have off school and take a break for a week. It could be a good time to plan a fun-filled day with friends. There are plenty of museums in Lincoln that you may not have visited, for example the Sheldon Museum of Art. Parks and the zoo in town could be a good place to visit.

Daylight Saving Time-March 12 at 2 a.m.

Daylight saving time is during spring break this year. Many ancient civilizations adjusted their daily schedule to when the Sun would rise and set. The United States began daylight saving time in 1918 when the president, Woodrow Wilson signed it into law to support World War 1. Arizona and Hawaii does not participate in daylight savings to this day. Daylight saving time might be annoying but it’s something that you should know about March.

March Madness-March 14-April 3

March Madness, also known as the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, starts during spring break Your March can be filled with watching basketball games and filling out brackets with friends. March Madness has 36 teams and approximately 67 games. TBS, CBS, TNT and TruTV are all channels that air the march madness games.

St. Patrick’s Day-March 17

Though St. Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday by the Catholic Church, anyone can celebrate it. The wearing of green started in 1726 when it was said that St. Patrick himself wore shamrocks and green colored clothing or accessories. Having a contest with friends about who can wear more green and shamrock clothing is a good idea. The most green person wins.

Other March Recognitions

March also includes many awareness causes you may not know about. March is National Nutrition month, Music in our Schools month, Frozen Food month, Youth Art month, Kidney month, and Celery month.
