This year, North Star welcomed a new teacher, Mrs. Hershey. For the past five years, she has been a teacher at Bryan Community Focus Program, where she taught FCS. Starting her sixth year here as a gator, she is currently teaching Families & Crisis, Intro to Fashion, Interior Design, Clothing Textiles & Design, and Lifespan Development.
The biggest difference she’s noticed about North Star compared to her previous school was the class sizes. She claims, “Most notably, more students have better attendance. There’s also less behavior problems which makes it easier to get through class content.” Her favorite class to teach is Clothing, Textiles, & Design because she loves to sew and she loves seeing students get that feeling of accomplishment when they complete projects.
“I do enjoy the “gator” life so far. It’s a very different sense of community from Bryan but I do feel the support of my coworkers even though there are so many now.” Hershey’s style of teaching is very relaxed. She tries to have students do creative activities/assignmetns as much as possible. In her classroom, Hershey doesn’t have any of her own set rules aside from the rules North Star has set, but she makes it very aware that she does not tolerate bullying between students. She tries to speak up whenever she catches something of the sort taking place.
North Star is happy to have welcomed Mrs. Hershey into gator territory.
