Gator volleyball set history last night by winning the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament for the first time in school history. Last year the Gators were the number one seed going into the tournament but had a first round exit after falling to Columbus in a fifth set thriller. But this year the gators had a goal of winning the HAC tournament. The team did just that in a dominant fashion.
After sweeping the first two teams, the Gator Volleyball team matched up against Lincoln Southwest in the finals. Southwest is a team that North Star played earlier in the season.
During the match, the Gators came out hot and won the first set 25-19. However, the Silverhawks bounced back and took the second set 25-18. After a quick break the Gators take the next two sets with ease.
Nebraska Orthopedic Center named Junior Delainey Volkmer player of the game. Volkmer had 20 kills and 23 digs while playing all six rotations. Other notable players Junior Lauren Mckernan had 14 kills, and Sophomore Marie Paneitz had 14 digs in the contest.
The Gators look to take their momentum into districts next week where they get to host a district for the first time ever.
