Pep rallies are a good way to include everyone and allow room for school spirit. North Star’s most recent pep rally was September 10th, right before the Homecoming football game and dance. It was full of energy and excitement deriving from the students cheering, dancers and cheerleaders spiriting, and student council hosting. There were many things included in the pep rally to keep the crowd entertained. Performances from the Spirit Squad and a few games the students could be involved in were among the festivities included. In order to achieve an engaged crowd and an amazing rally, the set up used a great deal of planning which couldn’t have been done by anyone else. Addi Brooks (11) a student council member states that “this pep rally took a month” (to fully plan). The games that were played included “Noodle Joust” and “Hungry Hungry Hippos”. When asked why these games were chosen, Brooks stated that they “needed to be quick and easy games that would

have a clear winner.” McKinzey Lile (11), Dazzler and participant in games, says how she “had a lot of fun” while playing the games and they required “a good team effort.”
Although time is taken by Student Council to plan, dance teams and cheerleaders also put in a lot of time behind the scenes for the pep rally as well. The emphasis of their performances and spiriting is to deliver the spirit to the crowd and to energize them at the beginning of the festivities. Countless hours of time outside of school were generously donated by each team in order to execute their performances to the best of their capabilities. The cheerleaders performed their cheer routine and following, the Dazzlers performed a pom routine. Both teams brought enthusiasm and energy to the pep rally. Lile stated, “We’ve been practicing this dance since May, so it is something we’ve been trying to perfect and make it look the best it can.”
Throughout the 30 minutes, the students were engaged in the immense school spirit which was brought to you by, Student council, the Dazzlers, and the cheer team who all worked together to bring the best of North Star to The Swamp. Afterwards, high appraisal was received from both students and staff. The pep rally showed our schools unity through the games, cheers, and performances.
