The Gators are no stranger to success in the water, with countless state appearances and district titles. Of these elite North Star athletes are juniors Amelia Bowers and Logan Cammarano; both of which have been swimming all of their High School careers.
Cammarano has been swimming nearly 5 years; specializing in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle races. Logan got into swimming with a tale as old as time; sibling rivalry. “I started swimming just to be better than my sister,” Cammarano explains. “Improving my time can be a struggle, though.” Despite the hardships that come with swimming, Logan clings to memories of State appearances with friends and is looking forward to competing at State once again this year. To close out the 24/25 season, Cammarno is looking to shave a second off of his 50 meter time.
Another junior swimmer, Amelia Bowers, is also looking to finish the season strong. Bowers competes in a wide range of events, consisting of relays, backstroke, and freestyle. Of the many races she swims, she prefers the 50 meter freestyle. Bowers started her swimming career her freshman year of high school, and since then has racked up countless memories. “Making the state cut was probably my favorite memory from swimming,” Amelia explains. “Making the state cut was pretty cool.” Of course, with success comes struggle, and Bowers has fought through plenty. She tells of the mental blocks that come with competing in a sport like swimming; when asked what her biggest obstacle in swimming is, she simply stated, “Me.” Her favorite memories to reminisce on are usually about making runs at state with her relay team, which consists of Mai Jacobo (11), Rainy Nixon (11), and Lauren Mckernan (10).
There are plenty of other, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they did so. North Star has a long history in the pool; one full of trophies and plaques.
