This year we welcomed a new but friendly face as the North Star varsity boys basketball head coach. Brain Castor was the head coach of the Junior Varsity team and assistant head coach of the varsity team last year. He is the new head coach for the boys varsity team and has already done great things for his team.
The Gator boys have started the season with a record of 15-4, this is one of the best records the boys have ever had here at North Star. Castor is an alumni of Lincoln North Star and says “I wanted to give back, and continue to impact lives. I love the competition here at North Star and there’s no place I’d rather be.” Castor has a son who is a Sophomore here at North Star and is one of our star players for the basketball team.
Castor led his Junior Varsity team last year going 22-0 and winning the city championship. His experience comes from coaching AAU and traveling across the country to play teams with D1 athletes and coached against varsity coaches and low level college coaches. The AAU team he coaches consists of 4 of our star players, the past 5 years they have been nationally ranked in the top 20 among other great teams.
Castor and his team have many goals for this year, but the main goal they are all tuned in for is getting to state. They want to be the best team they can be and hopefully be the team that wins their school their first state championship. Like I said earlier they have the best start to the season in school history. “I’m having a lot of fun, but more importantly the boys are having a lot of fun.” Castor said. As the season goes on keep an eye out for this amazing, athletic squad as they try to go back to state and bring home a championship.
