This year the Gator wrestling team welcomed new faces, this included students from all grades and weight classes. While the state appearing now junior Carter Geschke and senior Colton Hauschild return for their prime season. The boys attended Millard West for their first meet of the season. For many, they got a taste of what the rest of the season was going to hold. Sophomores Benny Vu and Kevin Tong got to see their strength from putting in countless days in the gym. For Vu, he went up against some great competitors and learned his lesson that there is a lot of technique that play into the sport of wrestling. “There was a minor set back of losing his first match,” Vu says but he was able to learn from his mistakes and work on fixing them with the help of Head Coach Jake Froscheiser.
Based on Coach Froscheiser’s experience allows for student athletes to put their trust in him to guide them down the right path. During an interview with Vu he states, “ The competition is way better than expected and even though you are strong you can still take a loss.” Even though it is early in the season and some of the newer wrestlers have only had about a month of practice to hone in on their skills they are setting goals and working hard every day. After observation by Vu at his first meet he claimed “138 lb weight class seemed the most competitive due to the strength and quickness within the class. For Tong, he gets to experience both the JV level and varsity level within his first week showing that the coaches of the gator wrestling team believe in his potential to improve and develop into a great wrestler. We hope nothing but the best for our gators and will support them through their growth in the season.
