As a yearly tradition, North Star High School celebrates various successes within the extracurriculars. For example, this year the Varsity Girls Volleyball Team qualified for State, so North Star held a “Gator Walk.” Drumline marches through the halls of the school, with the team following behind them while the student body cheers the team on. In the Lincoln Public Schools District, North Star is the only school to do this form of celebration. Although, this particular Gator Walk the students had a surprise guest; LPS Superintendent, Dr. Paul Gausman.
Dr. Paul Gausman has been the Lincoln Public Schools Superintendent Since July 1st of 2022. Dr. Gausman currently holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN; an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Sioux Falls; a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Nebraska at Omaha; and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Before joining LPS, Dr. Gausman was the Superintendent in Sioux City, and in December of 2021 he was elected President of the Urban Superintendents Association of America. Outside of being a Superintendent, Dr. Gausman prides himself in being a performing artist in the Yamaha Corporation of America. He previously was the Director of Bands in Millard West, as well as the Marching Percussion Instructor for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhusker Marching Band.
With his percussion skills, Dr. Gausman surprised North Star with his appearance in the third Gator Walk of the year, as seen in the front of the drumline. He played alongside students playing the drums all throughout the halls of North Star, with the sounds of their celebration echoing in the halls. He was seen with a big navy “N” hung from his neck, symbolizing North Star and their victory in making it to State volleyball.
