As the winter season approaches this year, so does the Unified Bowling season. Unified Bowling is a great opportunity for students to team up with a Special Olympics athlete and compete in bowling matches together.
There is a very clear display of sportsmanship and community spirit in this activity.
The Gators are breaking down barriers and creating a sense of unity and inclusion through the power of sports. Unified S
ports makes it possible for more students to have an opportunity to participate in an impactful activity. By bringing together individuals of varying abilities, the team creates an environment wh
ere everyone can thrive and learn from each other. Social inclusion impacts the whole school atmosphere in a positive way, by promoting respect, acceptance and diversity. Students are able to feel valued for their unique skills and talents.
Junior Lexi Parde is entering her third season of Unified Bowling this year. Like everyone else, she was once entering freshman year and looking for something to be a part of. After choosing between the wide selection of clubs and activities here at North Star, the Unified program struck her interest. Parde explains, “Unified Bowling offers an experience for North Star students that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to have.” Through the Unified program, students are able to make new friends and connections among the school. Parde says, “We are able to gain new experiences and make an impact on our community.”
Looking ahead at the year, the team is very excited to continue out the rest of this season. They remain the perfect example of how sports can bring people together and create lifelong relationships and memories.
Fans can catch the 2024 Unified Bowling team at their very next dual on Monday, November 11th at 3:30 pm. They will be competing against Lincoln Northeast at Sun Valley Lanes. Make sure to show up and show out for the gators!
