“In every leaf, there’s a whisper of autumn’s magic,” a perfect quote to sum up this year’s fall break. During this last week North Star students and staff had their first break to end the first quarter of the 2024-2025 school year. This year’s Fall Break even came with an extra day off due to a teacher plan day. Many North Star students, while they miss the weekly PLC days, enjoyed the extra day off. The PLC day gave students more time to hangout with loved ones and relax. During this Fall Break many students went to some of Nebraska’s popular pumpkin patches, like Roca Berry Farm and Vala’s Pumpkin Patch. These pumpkin patches feature more than just pumpkins. They have a wide variety of activities for people of all ages to enjoy. As well as Roca’s “Roca Scary Farm” at 7pm featuring scare actors and enough haunted houses to go around. Many people also carved pumpkins, planned their Halloween costumes, slept in, worked, and relaxed. This five-day weekend is the first of North Star’s long breaks during the holiday season.
Grace Hays, a North Star senior, spent her fall break “going to a wedding and celebrating with family members.” Hays enjoys spending her breaks with loved ones and believes it’s important to spend breaks and holidays with loved ones because it gives you “extra time to put in more effort and love into valuable relationships.” Breaks and holidays also give us more time to see family that may live far away or have conflicting schedules. Some fall activities Hays enjoys doing with her loved ones includes pumpkin carving and the AppleJack Festival. However, Hays believes the most underrated fall activity is simply “going outside” in the beautiful fall weather.
Another North Star senior, LaTrice Young, loves to watch scary movies during the fall season and believes the most underrated fall activity is “laying in bed and watching movies.” Young spent her fall break having a “Halloween-themed outdoor movie night” with her friends and family. She believes it’s important to spend this free time with loved ones because it helps make “new memories and new traditions” for future years.
