The Bayou was buzzing as another great night of North Star Volleyball proceeded. Anxious parents, students, and staff flooded the gym to watch North Star take on East in volleyball. The Gators got off to a rough start, losing the first set 25-15. The final point was scored, and everyone took a moment to regroup. This wasn’t going to be a defining moment for the Navigators, though.
They battled and won the second set, and then succeeded with another win in the third. They were hot, and not much was going to cool them down. Both the second and third set bled into long, long battles, lasting far over the standard 25 points. North Star never backed down from the challenge, and pushed through the adversity; again, winning them both. “It was definitely important for us,” said junior Lexi Parde. “The crowd was hype after we won those.”
Rolling into the fourth set, it didn’t seem like much was gonna stop them. However, the Spartans made a statement and took that fourth set. Despite the fact they had lost the past two sets, in down to the wire fashion, they were not backing down.
The match had dragged onto five, and this was for everything, as explained Parde, “There was some extra motivation going into this one, considering it was East.” North Star secured their victory in stunning fashion in a 15-12 victory in set five. Parde was the one who sank the dagger; her final ace and serve was the winning point.
“I jumped the highest I’ve ever jumped,” she said. “All I remember is Alex (Kroll) running over and giving me the tightest hug ever.”
You can’t deny the boiling greatness of Gator volleyball; this seems like just a hint of what’s to come for North Star. They face the Norfolk Panthers on September 17th, looking to continue their streak after a triumph over the Discoverers.
