TTo kickstart the 2023-2024 season, tryouts for boys soccer went underway in late February. Head Coach Joel Bergt had a clear goal in mind to win lots of games, score lots of goals, and have lots of fun during the season. Bergt had made many decisions, and the varsity players already knew their main objectives for the season. Tryouts went as usual for the JV and Reserve players, coached by coaches Bryan Kinnan and Alex Peiman. The boys teams seemed fit and ready for this new chapter of boys soccer.
The Varsity Gators suffered a few defeats and started their season pretty roughly. They eventually found themselves celebrating their first win of the season with a game where they won 4-1 over the Lincoln Northeast Rockets. And for a few games after that, they kept winning and saw results against Lincoln East with a 2-1 win in overtime, and a 3-0 win against Fremont in the first leg of their HAC tournament. The JV boys also defeated Lincoln Northeast and kept a clean sheet with a 6-0 win over their opponents.
To finish off the season, the boys unfortunately faced defeat against the Gretna Dragons during their district playoffs and lost 2-0 on Tuesday, April 30. Previously before their unfortunate crash, the Gators found themselves hammering the Omaha North Vikings in an 8-0 victory.
The future of North Star soccer is in good hands with younger and new talents being introduced every year, there is no doubt that the boys and girls alike will make good progress and show their programs what it means to be a Gator.
