Ms. Hill is the faculty sponsor of Istoria, the literary magazine at North Star. This is her fourth year in control of Istoria and has had a lot of experience with being published in her college’s literary magazine.
Currently, there are around 10-12 students on the Istoria team r and they love to work as a team in order to get to help with something so creative.
Their main goal is to highlight the voices and experiences of the students of North Star. They want to see the creative, out of the box ideas each student has to offer, traditional or not. They want it to represent a time capsule, full of ideas, stories, and pictures from students.
Each member of Istoria has a place reading and choosing which submissions are entered into the magazine. They read through all submissions and select the ones they find have the best writing, drawing, or picture quality. From there they form groups depending on the categories of the submissions that they have chosen. Each group is tasked with reading through all of the selective pieces they have chosen in their category, and reading them to decide if they still fit with the book’s theme and quality.
All the members help set up the layout of the book and where they think what pieces would fit with other pieces. Each year the book for Istoria has 88 pages, and a huge part of putting the book together is picking what pieces can be combined. Istoria is still growing and they have many different positions on the theme, to help be in charge and part of the reasons the book is so well thought-out and put together.
When the book is all set in stone, they send it off to a company called Firestone to be printed and have copies made to be sold. Istoria is still growing and members are joining the team. Istoria is currently taking submissions for the 2023-2024 school year book.
