Gator Galaxy Advisor
Lincoln North Star High School
My name is Christina Nevitt and I am the advisor and teacher for the Gator Galaxy newspaper program at Lincoln North Star High School. I have been advising the GG staff for the last 10 years. In addition to newspaper, I also teach Photojournalism and Journalism classes and am the head cheerleading coach.
As a child, I grew up in a news room. My mother landed her first job as a reporter when I was 6 years old. In the fall of 1999, I took a job with the Omaha World-Herald in Newspaper in Education (NIE) where I taught teachers how to use the newspaper with their students by integrating it into their curriculum. I also wrote curriculum for the program and fundraised money from businesses and corporations to fund the newspapers in the classroom. In 2003, I left the World-Herald and began working for the Lincoln Journal Star in the same capacity.
My goal as advisor of the Gator Galaxy is to guide my staffers in their writing and help them seek the truth and report it as fully as they can. I want them to learn to become the voice for the voiceless and tell the stories that surround them every day.
