The Gator wrestling squad is going through one of its best seasons as an entire team in the school’s history.
Although the Gators step on the mat with a relatively young team, they are performing at an extremely high level. The Gator Wrestling team has begun to make a name for themselves as an entire team.
The Gators are scoring high in competitions. They are on pace to break most of the team records that were previously set. They’re also on track to break the school dual wins in a season record. With six duals left, the Gators need just four more victories to tie the school record. which has stood since 2007. With another dual tournament and two individual duals left, this record is very attainable. The Gator wrestlers have also have also already broken the team takedowns in a season record. With four weekends left of regular season wrestling and multiple duals, remaining this record is set to be blown out of the water.
“We work very hard on our feet at practice. We’ve been more aggressive as a team on our feet this year, but we’ve been smarter too. You gotta risk it to get the biscuit,” said senior Muhsin Younis . This year’s squad has shown a new level of being aggressive on their feet and taking it to their opponents.
The Gators also got huge boost from two wrestlers at the LPS classic. Aaram Gerlach (11) and Enrique Garay (12) both posted perfect, 4-0 records at the dual tournament. Both wrestlers got key wins in duals to propel the Gators to a 3-1 record at the classic. These two helped lead the Gators to their best record to finish at this tournament. With a third place finish, this is the highest the Gators have ever finished there.
