Ladies on the Court

By Alex Stogdill

The basketball season is well underway and it has proven to be a struggle for our lady Gators as the season has progressed. Varsity has yet to win a game, but it’s not all that bleak for this year’s team. We have a very young team this year, with many freshmen, a lot of who start games. Although we are going through some growing pains, there is still a very positive outlook with such a young, and talented team.

Sometimes you have to look at the other aspects of basketball; not just the win-loss column or points per game. Basketball is much more than that. It is a sport where people can learn, develop, and work together. They have an opportunity to be around others and make them better as well as themselves. It builds teamwork and other essential characteristics of life.

Even though this season is not what people wanted, you can still take positives from it. Our team is very young, with the exception of a few upperclassmen. There are a lot of underclassmen on this year’s team, and they have a lot of talent and potential. Going through a season like this can help bring a team together and help motivate them to work very hard, which is what they are doing.

This is a good experience for all of the players as they can benefit from it in various ways. It gives them a chance to grow as basketball players as well as people.

“Even though things aren’t going the way I planned, it’s a great opportunity to build character,” said sophomore Katie Horan. “I also have been able to meet tons of new people and our team is very close.”

“A positive would be the friendships that I have made and it has made me a better athlete,” said Kailee Brown (10). It’s good to see the players are staying positive through trying times.

Those are the kinds of things, coped with talent and experience, that will make the team very successful in the future.

In the long run, this is just a speed bump for the Lady Gators basketball team. They have a very promising future. They just need to continue to work hard and keep developing their game to achieve the success they desire. This season will be a huge stepping stone for the team for their future. It will help them gain perspective and grow so they can be the best they can possibly be.

Although they are working very hard this season, they can’t do it alone. They need as much support from fans as they can get to help them throughout the rest of the season. It would be great to get just as large of a student section for our girls as there is for our boys team.

We are one big family at North Star, and we rely on each other. We win together and we lose together. As long as we stick together through the good times, and especially the bad, we will accomplish our greatest goals.
