What Irritates You?

By Livia Tran

We all have an internal disposition to something, whether it is people on their phones while in a drive-thru, or people who talk obnoxiously loud 24/7. The Gator Galaxy Staff has some things that really grinds their gears, and they’re all pretty similar. As different as each of us are, many of the same things irritate us to the core.

It’s after school, and you’re excited to get out of the building to leave a long day of school behind you. As you’re trying to get up the stairs and get your stuff out of your locker, you find someone who’s a little too excited to go home, since they walk down the stairs on the wrong side. Not wanting to get run over, you park yourself towards one end of the stairs, letting the perpetrators slide by. This is irritating to everyone on staff. It’s extremely irking to not have your right of way, when you’re going up the right way. All the staffers have this major irritation in common.

School wise, our annoyances are sparked by different things. Sarah Wetzel (10) hates people who chase others in the hallway. “This is high school, not a playground.” said Wetzel. Wetzel also hates how there isn’t cell phone service at certain places within the school.

Brooke Schwisow (11) loathes people who stand around and do nothing when there is work to be done. “Why waste your time standing there when you could be getting something accomplished?” said Schwisow. “I don’t like people who don’t follow directions. If I see someone entering an area that says, ‘Do not enter,’ I seriously ponder their intelligence.”

There are certain girls at school who dress inappropriately. Not only at school, but in public as well. It’s not okay to wear shirts that do not cover your stomach. Believe it or not, no one wants to see that. Anything that doesn’t need to be popping out – shouldn’t be. As Mrs. Maddux said, “Cover up that shame.”

“I hate people who don’t know how to wear clothes. We don’t need to see that,” said Mikayla Cruickshank (11). Hana Jaber (11) also agrees with this. “When I see girls with no clothes on, I wonder why they even bothered to get dressed. It’s like, where’d your clothes go?” Cruickshank also does not enjoy seeing couples making out in the middle of the hallways. “PDA should be kept to the couple’s own time.”

Another shared consensus in on staff is people who stop randomly in the middle of the hallway. We all have places to go, and it’s irritating to be walking, and have someone stopping randomly right in front of you.

For the staff members who can drive, they all stated that they hate getting out of the parking lot after school. “I honestly dread driving home after school, because no one at this school knows how to drive,” said Jaber. Juniors Emalee Henning and Megan Woodard agree with the troubles of driving home after school. We understand that you’re in a hurry to drive home, but there’s no need to act like idiots.

As for the personal things that irritate us, it varies. Trevor Birdzell (11) hates bandwagon fans. Birdzell also hates slackers and spam on Facebook. Haeder Kasem (11) hates texts that contain only the dreaded letter “k”. Ethan Molifua (9) and Mikaelah Molifua (11) hate obnoxious and loud people. Henning hates kids who take advantage of subs, and act rudely towards them. Jaber dislikes that MSN News recognizes Kim Kardishian before deaths in Syria and Somalia. Schwisow dislikes loud chewers. Ashton Greenfield (11) detests slow walkers and pen clickers.

The Gator Galaxy Staff is definitely a diverse one, in personalities and physicality. However, as different as each one of us are, we all have something that drives us nuts. It may differ from one to another, but we agree on one major thing : To those who walk up the stairs the wrong way, please take the right stairway, or else you’ll appear directionally challenged.
