The 1975 Is Coming To Lincoln

One of the many things people do when it starts to get warmer outside is enjoy some of the best events that Lincoln has to offer.

When summer approaches, many go to Pinewood Bowl to see theatre productions and concerts. On May 19, the English pop rock band, The 1975 is coming to Lincoln at 7:15 p.m.

The band just recently gained notoriety in the states, but they have been rocking the charts in England and other parts of Europe since 2013. Originating in Manchester, England, the band sings songs about “the dark and youthful themes of romance, love, and fear with ethereal alt-rock music,” according to Scott Kerr of AllMusic, the online music guide service website.

The band is praised for not being stuck in a “genre box” even though they technically are portrayed as rock. “We’re simply a post-modern pop band that references a million things,” said lead vocalist Matt Healy to the Melody Maker Magazine.  “To be honest, I don’t even know what the band is half the time.” The rest of the band members are Adam Hann (lead guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums).

Not only do The 1975 resonate with older teens because of their many themes, it also brings out everyday teenage angst.

“I really enjoy their style of music, and the messages behind some of their songs as well,” said senior Hannah Ferguson.

“They’re different than most bands that are out nowadays. It pleases to a smaller audience that really understands what good, meaningful music is,” said junior Adrian Lamberti.

General admission tickets are still on sale for the Pinewood Bowl show, which people can purchase on Ticketmaster.
