Nebraska Full of Spooky Spots

Halloween is just around the corner and that means candy, costumes, and maybe  some scary adventures. You don’t have to go far to find something spooky. According to http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nebraska/haunted-places-ne/, here are the top 10 haunts in Nebraska.

1. Ball Cemetery, Springfield

Ball cemetery is thought to be one of the most haunted places in Nebraska. There have been several reported sightings of a tall male figure who is known to assault nighttime visitors. Ball Cemetery is also frequently haunted by a female apparition who laughs, speaks, and tugs on people’s clothing.

2. Centennial Hall, Valentine

This school is Nebraska’s oldest standing high school building. Built in 1897, the building now functions as a museum. In 1944, a female student was poisoned via her clarinet mouthpiece and died of a heart attack. It is said that the student still haunts the school building, visitors have reported feeling cold spots without the building and hearing music in the old band room, which hasn’t held an instrument in years.

3. Hummel Park, Omaha

This park holds several spooky things in its past and present including having housed several satanic rituals, sightings of shadowy figures and phantom lights, and several bodies of murder victims from the 20th century.

4. Road L (Seven Sisters Road), Nebraska City

It is said that in the 17th century, a father was arguing with his seven daughters and got so mad that he hung them each on a tree on separate hills.  It has been reported that people driving by have heard women screaming and have experienced car troubles, like a sudden dead battery.

5 . Wayne State College, Wayne

There have been several sightings of different ghost. The two most well known are  Clara, a girl who committed suicide and a girl who was accidentally electrocuted on a bare wire.

6.   Barnard Park, Fremont

Barnard Park is beautiful by day, but scary by night. Now known as the historic district of Fremont surrounded by beautiful houses is also known as one of the most haunted places in Nebraska. The park was once a cemetery, however when the city relocated the cemetery some of the bodies were left behind. It is said the spirits of the forgotten bodies roam the park at night.

7. Blackbird Hill, Near Decatur

What is currently known as the grave of Omaha Indian Chief Blackbird is known to be one the scariest places in Nebraska. However, it’s not his spirit that haunts the place, but the spirit of a woman. It is said she was murdered by her husband when she told him she was going to leave him. He stabbed her to death, then committed suicide. It’s said that every Oct. 17 you can hear her screams.

8. Devils Canyon, North of McCook

A few miles from McCook lies Devil’s Canyon. It is said that more than 100 years ago, a man killed his wife and kids, then himself.. If you drive down there during the night, it’s said that the old man wanders around. “He” causes the car to stall and other mechanical objects to malfunction.

9. Logan Creek Bridge, Pender

This bridge, which is now torn down, is said to be the site of a vengeance killing. A man had killed his employers and people went after him. When they caught him, they hung him from the bridge. Many people have witnessed apparitions of a hanging man.

10. Plumer Street House, Maxwell

A house in Maxwell which is a modern-day murder house, is known to be the scene of multiple murders. According to locals and current house owners, the spirits still roam the house today. A young boy died when he fell down the stairs while heading to the bathroom and broke his neck. Another child hung himself in the house. It is also said that a baby died of SIDS. According to house owners, at night you can hear things move around the house and unexplained noises have been reported over the years.
