North Star’s spring musical production of “Shrek the Musical” was one for the books.

On March 3, 4, and 5, the theater department took the classic Dreamworks comedy and made the already hilarious movie even funnier.

The show followed the plot of the movie, but featured key songs and moments not in the film.

Show stars seniors Chaney Bernt (Shrek), Courtney Eastman (Fiona), and Kaedyn Campbell (Donkey) stole the show with enchanting singing and class A acting.

The cast put in months of rehearsal time to make the show perfect. Not only did they do a great job, but seniors Zach Miller (Lord Farquaad) and Dayonna Tucker (Dragon) shocked and wowed the crowd. Miller performed the entire musical from his knees and Tucker flew onto the stage.

The production crew helped bring the whole show together with a set design that was so clever and elegant, it was easy for the audience to forget it was a high school production.

During “Tech Week,” the cast and crew stay late to help with set design and costumes. The work really shows during the performance. The use of the fog machine really added a magical effect to the story.

For some, this was their last North Star musical performance. Senior Alexis Keiser said,  “It was a happy and bittersweet moment. It was so fun doing my last production with the amazing cast and crew. I’m going to miss everyone when I leave.”

The theater department will have one final performance this year with the Senior-Directed One Acts. Auditions were held in early March.
