Girls basketball tryouts were held on Monday, Nov.15 and Tuesday, Nov. 16. All levels of play are hoping to improve their previous records and have been working in the off-season to prepare.

“With the girls already having another year under our belt together and having a good portion of our team back, I think we will do much better this season,” said senior Justine Griess.

This year is an away season, so the players will be traveling a lot for their games. “The bus rides are the best part. It’s a blast to get to miss school and travel to the different schools with some of my best friends,” said Griess.

The varsity girls team includes many returners like seniors Leyton Bruegman, Hannah Graff, Justine Griess, Nya Kaong, Elaina Mayer, and Sammy Miller.

The first game of the season was an exhibition game against the Elkhorn Antlers on  held Dec. 1. Their first regular season game was Friday, Dec. 4 in the Swamp against Bellevue West. Many players said this will be the toughest game of the season, because they are the number one ranked team in the state and have been a good competition in the past.

“The game I am looking forward to the most this year is against Lincoln High, because we have been forming a rivalry against them for a little while and they are always fun to play against,” said Griess.

The girls basketball program gained  new reserve coach  Holli Erickson. Erickson is also North Star’s newest Campus Supervisor.

The girls varsity coach Allen Simpson had some things to say about this season for the team. “If the girls stay focused and keep working hard I think that this will be a great season with lots of accomplishments.”
