Louisville Basketball Scandal Not Over Yet

By Ethan Wobken/Gator Galaxy Staff

For the past few weeks there have been multiple investigations going on to try and find the truth behind the University of Louisville Basketball sex scandals.

After the scandal came out, many people have come forward and confessed to the allegations they were accused of.

First, it was the claim of one prostitute, but now the scandal at the University of Louisville has grown. Five former Louisville basketball players and recruits confirmed to ESPN that they attended parties at a campus dorm from 2010-2014 that included strippers paid for by former director of basketball operations and graduate assistant Andre McGee. One of the players confirmed he had sex with a dancer after McGee paid her.

Katina Powell said she was paid by McGee to provide recruits with strip shows and sex during campus visits. Powell said she was given approximately $10,000 by McGee for supplying dancers for more than two dozen parties for four years. In one instance, McGee allegedly offered her a bottle of whiskey signed by the team’s head coach, Rick Pitino, as payment.

After the story came out, McGee was placed on paid administrative leave, then later resigned from his position as University of Missouri – Kansas City’s assistant coach.

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino, in several public appearances in the past few weeks, has said if anything happened, he did not have knowledge of it. Pitino also told ESPN that he was “devastated”  and “disappointed” after the report came out, but that he loves his current Louisville team and “will give them all I have.”

Coach Quatrrochi “In high school sports they don’t have any recruiting to try and get kids to go to their schools. It’s all up to the kids and their parents on where they go to school. But when you hear about things like Louisville it gives the sport and school a bad rep and it’s really disappointing to hear about.”

This investigation is still ongoing.
