On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the varsity volleyball team went head-to-head with Omaha Central for their first of only four home games this season.

Only three more games in The Swamp for seniors to give their best to the game before graduating.

The Gators beat the Eagles in three straight sets.

Senior Sarah Allick loves walking down the hall and hearing “good luck tonight” from teachers and students. “It’s like pre-game hype,” said Allick who will be attending Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD after graduation where she will continue with college ball. “I’m really going to miss the school support,” said Allick. Allick is pretty confident with the team’s potential for the rest of the season after Tuesday’s win.

Senior Ashley Kistaitis hasn’t officially decided where she wants to go for college, but she wants to continue volleyball. “I plan to play ball in college, like at a D-3 school,” said Kistaitis.

Good leadership is a major factor when it comes to being part of a team. Kistaitis said you can be a great leader, no matter if you are a senior or underclassman. For Kistaitis, everything is becoming more surreal especially after Tuesday’s game.

Unlike Allick and Kistaitis, senior Courtney Faller plans to attend UNL, but she won’t continue her volleyball career. She wants to focus more on her studies. Faller wants to major in pharmacy. “I want to finish strong this season,” said Faller, since it will be her last. Faller believes it’s never too late to work on being a leader or becoming one. “It’s important to lead your team to get the job done,” said Faller.

At the beginning of the first set Tuesday night, the Gators led with Omaha Central not too far behind. The lady Gators stepped up their game by the second set, improving their number of blocks and spikes.

The ladies will head to Millard North this weekend, starting Friday evening with a varsity tournament.
