Falling Into a New Sports Season

Fall sports are underway at North Star.

The 2015 boys tennis is going to be something to see. They have four returning varsity players this year, three of whom are seniors. Head coach Nathan Renter is returning for his 13th season and said, “Good talent and hard work can go a long way. Boys varsity tennis in Lincoln, and throughout the state, is down this year, so the boys could have a good shot at the title with dedication.”

The team is looking forward to the upcoming season. The surrounding schools in Lincoln are down in talent this year, so they have a good shot at the Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) title. The JV and reserve levels of tennis have a lot of up and coming talent. Matt Lickliter, boys JV and girls varsity tennis coach said, “They have a lot of talent, and I think they have a good shot at the city championship.”

The football team is also excited for their upcoming season. They have 15 seniors on varsity and a lot of other young talent. Head coach Mark Waller has brought in new coaches and staff to help improve the team from a tough season one year ago. North Star football has high hopes for this season and plan to make it to state. The last time North Star football made it to state, they lost a close game to Creighton Prep in the first round in 2013. This year they plan to redeem themselves.

Softball has eight returning seniors trying to finish their high school careers out strong. Head coach Travis Meyer is returning and hopes to have another successful season at North Star. Making it to state last year didn’t cut it. This year they plan to get even further and hopefully win it. Bailey Bolles said “We have a lot of returning talent this year from our eight seniors. We also have younger talent that puts depth in our pitching staff and field positions. I think if we play to our full potential every game, nobody in the state can stop us.”

Confidence is key and every player on the team has what it takes to form into a power house team. All of the sports this spring have what it takes to achieve greatness and put that State Championship banner up in the gym.
